Linear Graphs - VMC

THE VENDING MACHINE 


The above shows a Vending Machine.
Basically there is an input and an output.
It is a one to one function.

1. What are the assumptions made in designing of the vending machine.
2. If a drink cost $1.50, draw a table of values to show number of bottles against cost.
    in the following format
   cost ($)          number of bottles       
    x                                y
3. Using a piece of graph paper, plot the graph of number of bottles again cost ($).
    That is vertical axis - number of bottles
               horizontal axis - cost ($)
    scale :   vertical axis - 2 cm - 1 unit
               horizontal axis 1 cm - $1
4. Record 3 observations that you obtained from the graph.

  1. The target audience has physical money. The people around the area need drinks. There is no other source for flavoured drinks. The target audience knows how to operate a vending machine.

    - 1 cent and 5 cents coins will not be accepted
    - Only one drink will come out after payment
    - There is change if excess money is inserted
    - New coins cannot be inserted
    - Only coins can be inserted
    - Only one drink can be bought at a time

  3. 1. I will only get what is in the machine, There is no negative amount of money, The customer will not use 5/1 cent coins to purchase anything from the vending machine, Only the older coins are used

  5. If you pay for 1 drink, one drink will come out.
    If you choose a drink, that drink will come out.
    If you insert insufficient amount of money, the drink would not come out.

    - Strictly one drink will be discharged out of the machine after pay.
    - You can only buy one drink per payment.
    - Drinks at the back will automatically move up front when the drink in front is bought.
    - Change is expected when paying excess money

    - 1 drink discharged per payment
    - Change will be given if there is an extra money given
    - Different drinks cost different
    - The coins accepted: $0.10, $0.20, $0.50, $1
    - Both new and old coins are accepted

    - One bottle costs $1.50
    - $12 can buy 8 bottles
    - The graph is a straight line

  13. - The graph is like a staircase because the number of cans is in a discrete number.
    - The cost of per can of drink is the same no matter how much you buy.
    - The equation is 1.5x=1y
