NUMBER LINE

by MR JOHARI
TASK 1

Answer the following questions and post as a Blog entry.
  1. What is a Number Line and what stories does it tell?
  2. How different is this from the Number system that you have created earlier?

ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION

=======================================================================
TASK 2
1.   Each student will be given a number by the teacher.
      DO NOT disclose your number.
2.   Find information about the number to describe it better without its identity.
You may use your LD to search for information where necessary.
example:   1    is a whole number, it is also an integer,  it is a factor of other numbers.
3.   The teacher will then task you to arrange the members of your group according to their position in
the number line. DO NOT disclose your number. Use the descriptors to arrange members in the
number line.  eg. if given -3,  0.5,  0 , 8 1/2  then the arrangement would be
                                              -3,  0,    0.5,  3/4 , 8 1/2
4.   As a group indicate the position of everyone on the number line. It should be a SOLID DOT on the
      line

  1. 1. It is a line on which numbers are marked at intervals, used to illustrate simple numerical operations. The number line will allow you to tell if a number is larger or smaller than another number, using a number line.
    2. It easier to read.

  2. In basic mathematics, a number line is a picture of a straight line on which every point is assumed to correspond to a real number and every real number to a point.[1] Often the integers are shown as specially-marked points evenly spaced on the line. Although this image only shows the integers from −9 to 9, the line includes all real numbers, continuing forever in each direction, and also numbers not marked that are between the integers. It is often used as an aid in teaching simple addition and subtraction, especially involving negative numbers. source wikipedia. the number line is different from the number system because it only shows the positive and negative whole numbers.

  4. 1. A number line is a line in which real numbers can be placed, according to their value. Each points on a number line corresponds to a real number, and each real number has a unique point that corresponds to it.

2.The number system posted earlier was more of a mind map consisting of all the different numbers but the number line only consists of real numbers.

  5. TASK ONE

    1. A number line is basically a line with numbers with 0 usually as the reference point. The number line travels in two directions:

    BACKWARDS (negative) & FORWARDS (positive)

    2. The number system has a variety of numbers and its meanings while the number line only has negative an positive numbers portrayed clearly.

Sorry if its wrong I tried mah best :)

  6. A) A number line is a picture of a straight line on which every point is assumed to correspond to a real number and every real number to a point. The number line consists of negative integers and positive integers, the negative in the left and the positive numbers on the right.

    B) The number line is more simplified and easy to understand, but with less information to refer to. In the concept map, there are more terms that are shown and more detailed, but information in the number line is limited.

  7. TASK 1:
1.A line on which numbers are marked at intervals, used to illustrate simple numerical operations.
    2. It shows the negative and positive numbers while a number system gives you examples and meanings.

  8. 1. A line on which numbers are marked at intervals and it is used to show simple numerical operations.
    2. The number line shows simple numerical operations whereas the number system we created shows the meaning of different types of the number system.

  9. 1.A number line is a picture of a straight line on which every point is assumed to correspond to a real number and every real number to a point.
2.It is different from the number system I created depicts many numbers while the number only depicts a few of the numbers.

  10. A number line is a line on which numbers are marked at intervals, used to show simple numerical operations or just display numbers that are ascending and descending.
The stories it tells shows you consecutive numbers that are positive and negative. It helps you to add positive and/or negative numbers etc.
This number line is different from the number mind map i created because it EXPLAINS the different kinds of numbers there are , while the number line that is shown to us only shows positive and negative numbers. There is a limited kind of numbers but the amount of numbers goes on forever.

  11. A number line can be a line of any length that lists positive and sometimes negative numbers. In the standard horizontal number line, the zero is called the origin.
The number line I had created earlier has only one arrow and consists of only positive numbers.

  12. 1.A number line is a line where numbers are arranged in order from big to small or small to big and there is no end to a number line as there is no limited numbers.

    2. A number system is made up of many different types of numbers and the numbers may not be arranged in order wheres a number lines numbers must be arranged in order.

  13. A line on which numbers are marked at intervals, used to illustrate simple numerical operations and the number line can be used to add and subtract numbers.

It is different from the number system because we did not use any mindmap for the number system but we had to use the number line now

  14. Task 1

    1) A number line is a line where people place numbers on different parts of the number line, depending on the greatness. Mathematicians use them to help visualize numbers.

2)The number line only consists of real numbers and help us see numbers more easily, while the Number System is mainly more on the meanings of the different kind of numbers.

  15. In basic mathematics, a number line is a picture of a straight line on which every point is assumed to correspond to a real number and every real number to a point. The number line is usually represented as being horizontal. Customarily, positive numbers lie on the right side of zero, and negative numbers lie on the left side of zero. An arrowhead on either end of the drawing is meant to suggest that the line continues indefinitely in the positive and negative real numbers, denoted by{R}. The real numbers consist of irrational numbers and rational numbers, as well as the integers, whole numbers, and the natural numbers (the counting numbers).

  16. 1) A number line is actually a number comparison chart. It increases as it goes to the right. It also compares the value of things and makes it easier to find and identify patterns.

    2) I find this easier to understand as they are in-depth and are not too heavily summarised. So it teaches us more and has more content.

  17. Task 1:
    1. A number line is a line on which numbers are marked at intervals, used to illustrate simple numerical operations. It allows to compare the different numbers and solve simple equations.
    2. The numbers are all in sequence whereas in the number system, random numbers were used and they were not in order. Also, in the number system, the numbers were grouped into various groups and the definition for the various numbers were given. However, in the number line the numbers were just placed in order without any words.

  18. 1. Writing numbers down on a Number Line makes it easy to tell
which numbers are bigger or smaller, positive or negative.
    2. The mindmap was about the different types of numbers. This number line tells us what numbers are positive or negative.

  19. Task 1
Q1. It can be shown that the set of real numbers is isomorphic to any infinite straight line in space. Number line helps to visualize the order of numbers. It shows you which number is larger
Q2. Number line just portrays the numbers arranged accordingly while number system is any notation for the representation of numbers

  20. 1. A number line is a line in which real numbers can be placed, according to their value.
    2. The number line shows numbers in decreasing and increasing order with no explanations about the numbers. The number system explains the different types of numbers and it states examples.

  21. 1) A number line is tool that helps us to calculate calculations involving positive and negative integers.

    2) A number line easier to understand and remember because it is simplified. However, in the previous mind map we did, it is somewhat a bit untidy and wordy. It is thus very complicated, and may take us a longer time to understand and remember.

  22. 1a)A number line is a line of numbers. It tells us whether a number is bigger or smaller than another number.
1b)It tells us the position of each number while the number system only differentiate the types of numbers.

  23. A number line is a line in which real numbers can be placed, according to their value. The points on a numberline are called coordinates. The zero point is called the origin. The numbers to the right of the origin are positive numbers; the numbers to the left of the origin are negative numbers.
